Food PR

You have probably heard about a recent fiasco involving the King Nut food company. King Nut is the manufacturer of a popular brand of peanut butter, which has been found to be at the root of a recent outbreak of salmonella poisoning in the United States and Canada.

The news about the outbreak has resulted in a major catastrophe for the company. Thousands of dollars have been flushed down the drain as jars of peanut butter are thrown out and the company has to replace costs, not to mention the pending litigation. The company, quite solid at the end of 2008, is now looking at needing the services of bankruptcy lawyers.

Public relations are an incredibly important part of marketing a business, whether that business is a food catering company or a nanny agency. Toronto has hundreds of different catering companies, all with similar marketing approaches. Negative PR can mean the total destruction of businesses in these competitive circumstances, so it is very important to make sure that you have a good PR plan in place.

First of all, keep in mind that public relations are not always bad. Really, it is just putting a personality on your company that people in general will come to recognize. Examples of PR in marketing include the use of recognizable symbols in campaigns, such as a shot of Leslieville lofts complexes in a television commercial or the use of "Toronto" in the name of a major bank. The public relates to familiar symbols, and thus a company using those symbols has better visibility.

To a large extent, public relations in marketing food are also about ensuring confidence in the product you provide. This means knowing how to take advantage of conditions to promote your food. Media attention to the peanut butter crisis, for example, has meant that the public is once again concerned with food borne illnesses. Making sure that your health practices are mentioned in each facet of your campaign will demonstrate not only that you relate to public concerns, but that you are approaching issues in a pro-active manner.

There are a number of ways in which you can get this message of confidence out to the public. Using the media who covers the food borne illness is one way. News casts are always looking for stories which will relate to the public on several levels, and providing some kind of educational service about healthy food preparation is a great way to promote your business. Use the services of a Toronto CD replication company to make copies of food prep videos you record, then send them out to various outlets with a note explaining the importance of understanding food preparation. School also tend to look for this sort of educational reference material, so send some to local school boards as well. You may only get a brief mention, but your name does get out there.

No doubt executive recruitment services are hard at work looking for new management within the King Nut Company. Avoid a similar catastrophe within your small catering business through proper food preparation, and make sure the PR end of your marketing campaign shows your attention to these important details!
